About us

We are the first, most comprehensive, 100% exam oriented, interactive question bank and online revision tool for the Haematology trainees in the UK and for the haematologists worldwide. Our group of haematology experts and scientists, have built up this website inspiring its ideas and structure from the haematology trainees setting their FRCPath-1 exam and struggling to find a one dedicated source for their MCQ/EMQ revision.

About this website

We have built this website with more than 700 MCQ/EMQ questions to fullfill an unmet need for the haematology trainees.
In this website you are in the right place to revise for your MCQ/EMQ paper without need to juggle different non effective sources, books, websites..etc.

In this website you should see: an exam oriented structure which is covering all aspects of the Haematology curriculum while you can track your progress and compare your performance to the other users. You will also be able to revise while practising with more than 400 guidelines reviews attached to the questions and you can create your timed Mock exam with exam simulation structure.

About FRCPath Certificate

Possession of FRCPath in Haematology by examination is a mandatory requirement for the award of the CCT in Haematology for UK trainees. It is also an accepted certificate for IMGs to get full GMC registration with a license to practise. This is particularly useful for experienced overseas haematologists who wish to work in the UK and want to get GMC registration without the need for more basic pathways like PLAB or MRCP.

The Overseas FRCPath exam in haematology is held in nearly 11 centres around the world. However, the pass rate for part 1 shows a significant discrepancy between UK and non-UK centres, as shown in the performance report for 2019:

  • Overall pass rate: 54.9%
  • UK centres: 62.1%
  • Non-UK centres: 30.8%

This discrepancy largely reflects the lack of orientation to the exam structure and the absence of proper guidance and preparation. We are determined to change that by providing the necessary guidance to all candidates taking the FRCPath exam in Haematology.

Frequently Asked Questions

As per RCPath guidance, if you are a UK trainee, you are expected to have passed MRCP and to set your exam in ST4 as you are generally expected to pass part 1 by ST5. You will need to have your supervisor’s signature on the sponsor form. If you are not a UK trainee; eg speciality doctor, trust grade or an overseas haematologist, then it is basically your supervisor’s signature on the sponsor form what is required. It is advisable that you have at least 2 years of haematology training before trying part 1.

FRCPATH is an accepted post graduate qualification for GMC registration. Possession of FRCPath is the ideal route towards GMC registration for any IMG doctor that wants to work as a Haematologist in the UK.

FRCPath is marked via Angoff method so it varies depending on difficulty and performance of your peers. Saying that, those getting 75/125 should usually pass.

FRCPASS academy provide a renowned 4 days virtual preparatory course for FRCPath-1 exam. To apply for the course please fill in the registration form and our secretarial team will get in touch with you. The course is held twice annually, January and July and places are usually booked very quickly due to the limited number of places offered, so please register online so you will be on our correspondences list.

BSH Haematology guidelines are the main source for your revision, other sources would include ISTH guidelines for Haemostasis, NHSBT and JPAC guidelines for transfusion…etc.
Remember that, this is a UK based exam so examiners would generally expect your answers to match the UK practice, eg; ASH guidelines could suggest treatment options that are not NICE licensed.
We provide a comprehensive revision list with suggested sources for each single topic for those doing the 4 days preparatory course.

Few years ago there was a gap between UK and non UK centres in the pass rate, this has however significantly changed the last few years. The main reason for the discrepancy between UK and non UK candidates was that, the non UK candidates would need some familiarity with UK practice, acceptable revision sources, exam techniques..etc, something we do provide both in this website and on our 4 days preparatory course. Reassuringly we had ~ 70 - 75% pass rate with our overseas candidates doing our course for the last 3 years. We also do a mock exam 3-4 weeks before the exam so you know what are your weak points before setting the exam.

There are many international centres in different countries that used to do the exam, since COV-19, the exam’s settings have changed to be an online exam, and this continue to be the case, so you basically can do your exam from home. You need to keep checking though in case this will change in the future. RCPath website will provide you with the needed info in their examination section.
